The ninth studio album by Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here (1975), was by no means redundant. Based off material written during their European tour circuit, the record channeled Dark Side of the Moon with synths in the studio, yet made a statement by criticizing the music industry while giving tribute to band member Syd Barrett and his personal struggles with mental health. 

The record originally did not receive rave reviews like past works, as critics found it a bit uninspired, but songs like “Have a Cigar” still were popular tracks that did well on the charts. Today, critics acclaim the work for its influence in the industry and meaningful lyrics full of melancholy and symbolism.
