He was a foundational figure in the music industry and is considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He has been acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his innovative work during the 1970s. During his lifetime, his record sales estimated at 140 million albums worldwide, made him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. 

Diamond Dogs is his eighth studio album and was released in May 1974, as a marriage of the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell and Bowie’s own glam-tinged vision of a post-apocalyptic world. Bowie had wanted to make a theatrical production of the book and began writing material. The author’s estate denied the rights so the songs wound up on the second half of the album instead.
