By 1979, Pink Floyd was closer to the end of its reign than the beginning, but the 81-minute epic concept album The Wall found the band at the peak of its progressive and psychedelic powers. Envisioned by bassist Roger Waters, Pink Floyd’s 11th studio album is often heralded as the band’s crowning achievement, telling the elaborate story of a fictional rock star’s rise and inevitable fall.

Featuring such classics as “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2,” “Comfortably Numb,” and the side three, one-two punch “Hey You / Is There Anybody Out There?,” The Wall is often at its best when Water’s visionary songwriting is assisted by guitarist David Gilmour. As always, the music Waters and Gilmour created with drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright stands the test of time on an album consistently ranked as one of the greatest of all time.
