With a career spanning over 50 years, David Bowie has remained a staple of art and glam rock. A leading figure in the music industry, Ziggy Stardust is considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, he is acclaimed by critics and musicians, and he has sold an estimated 140 million albums worldwide. In the United States alone Bowie received five platinum and nine gold certifications and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. 

This shirt memorializes a two-year run (1972-1974) as Ziggy Stardust. Dressed in costumes and sporting reddish-brown hair, Bowie launched his stage show with the Spiders from Mars. This show catapulted Bowie to stardom and created the “cult of Bowie” which has been more creative and long-lasting than any other force in Pop Fandom. The album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972) combined hard rock with lighter experimental rock and remained on the charts for two years. Bowie’s love of acting inspired his character saying “Offstage I’m a robot. Onstage I achieve emotion. It’s probably why I prefer dressing up as Ziggy to being David.”
